JPG to ICO questions
Can I use the ICO for a Windows folder or shortcut?
Yes. After downloading, choose the ICO in the icon settings for the Windows folder or shortcut. This converter creates the file; it does not change your Windows settings.
Will this create an ICO with several resolutions?
No. Each ICO contains one square image resource at the output size. To make several separate ICO files, add separate output tasks with the sizes you want.
Will a rectangular image be cropped automatically?
No. The default Keep whole square image requires a square source. For a rectangular image, explicitly choose Center square crop and review that its edges will be cut. This workflow does not add transparent padding.
Will the icon keep transparency?
JPG does not contain transparency; conversion cannot restore a transparent background.
Which JPG images can I use?
This workflow supports unsigned 8-bit images. High-bit and CMYK input are outside its scope. ICO cannot retain the original embedded ICC profile here; if the image has one, review the explicit profile-removal choice. Unsupported color conversions are rejected.
How to convert JPG to ICO
1. Choose your JPG image Select a supported unsigned 8-bit image. High-bit and CMYK inputs are outside this workflow's supported scope.
2. Choose one icon size Select 16, 32, 48, 64, 128 or 256 pixels. The default is 256. Smaller images are not enlarged unless you check Enlarge smaller images to selected size, so the output may be smaller than the selected cap.
3. Review square framing and color Keep whole square image preserves a square source. For a rectangular source, explicitly select Center square crop; it cuts the edges. Review any required color-profile removal choice before adding the output task.
4. Convert and download the icon Add the output task, convert and download the ICO. Check the result before choosing it in your Windows folder or shortcut properties.
