PNG to TGA questions
Which PNG images can I convert to TGA?
This page supports one unsigned 8-bit RGB or RGBA PNG still image. 16-bit PNG, APNG animation, CMYK and Display-P3/wide-gamut input are outside this route.
Will TGA retain a transparent background?
Supported transparency is retained as RGBA when Flatten is unchecked. Choose Flatten and an explicit background only when you want an opaque image.
Why must I approve ICC profile removal?
This TGA writer does not embed the PNG ICC profile. Profile removal requires your explicit choice, and this route does not convert Display-P3/wide-gamut pixels to a different color space. Keep the original PNG for color-sensitive editing.
Is this a layered texture or mipmap exporter?
No. The output is one still TGA image. It does not contain layers, a mipmap chain or an engine-specific texture package, and support in every target app is not promised.
Will the TGA be smaller than the PNG?
Not necessarily. TGA can be larger than PNG. Check the actual output size and the receiving app’s requirements before uploading or importing it.
How to convert PNG to TGA
1. Choose your PNG image Select one unsigned 8-bit PNG still image. This route does not convert 16-bit PNG, APNG animation, CMYK or Display-P3/wide-gamut input to TGA.
2. Confirm TGA output Check that TGA is selected. Leave Width and Height blank to keep dimensions after orientation handling. TGA output does not offer a JPEG-style quality control.
3. Review transparency and ICC removal Leave Flatten unchecked to keep supported transparency. If the PNG contains an embedded ICC profile, explicitly choose profile removal before adding the task. Keep the PNG original when you need its original profile or metadata.
4. Convert and download Choose Add task, then Run. Download the TGA and check it in the receiving app; a .tga extension does not guarantee compatibility with every texture system.
