HEIC to AVIF Converter

Save a supported HEIC photo as AVIF for an app or website that accepts AVIF. AVIF encoding is lossy and cannot restore detail already lost in the HEIC source. Review the inspected primary image. This workflow does not export a HEIC sequence, thumbnails or every auxiliary image. This page supports supported SDR unsigned 8-bit RGB or RGBA HEIC/HEIF images with one primary image. High-bit/HDR, monochrome, multiple top-level images, depth images, unsupported auxiliary images and Display-P3 conversions are outside this page's scope.

AVIF output is preset. Review the inspected primary image. This workflow does not export a HEIC sequence, thumbnails or every auxiliary image. AVIF is lossy. Quality is optional and defaults to 88; Lossless is unavailable. Identical RGB or alpha values, smaller bytes and full profile/metadata preservation are not guaranteed. If the source has an ICC profile, explicitly choose Remove color profile (may change colors). Display-P3 removal is rejected; no profile-removal consent is granted automatically. Changing the format does not restore detail already lost in HEIC encoding. Review the choices, then Add task and Run. No task is created automatically.

HEIC to AVIF questions

Which HEIC files are supported?

Supported SDR unsigned 8-bit RGB/RGBA HEIC or HEIF files with one primary image. High-bit/HDR and unqualified variants are rejected. This page supports supported SDR unsigned 8-bit RGB or RGBA HEIC/HEIF images with one primary image. High-bit/HDR, monochrome, multiple top-level images, depth images, unsupported auxiliary images and Display-P3 conversions are outside this page's scope.

Is the AVIF lossless?

No. This workflow uses lossy AVIF encoding, including at high Quality. Lossless is unavailable and identical pixels are not promised.

Will transparency and color be identical?

AVIF can represent transparency, but RGB and alpha values may change. For profiled input, manually choose Remove color profile (may change colors); Display-P3 removal is rejected. Complete metadata preservation is not guaranteed.

Can AVIF restore detail lost in HEIC?

No. Changing the format cannot recreate missing source detail or resolution.

Will the AVIF always be smaller or accepted by my app?

No. Check actual download bytes and confirm the receiving app accepts AVIF.

How to convert HEIC to AVIF

1. Choose your HEIC image Upload a supported SDR unsigned 8-bit HEIC/HEIF image with one primary image. This page supports supported SDR unsigned 8-bit RGB or RGBA HEIC/HEIF images with one primary image. High-bit/HDR, monochrome, multiple top-level images, depth images, unsupported auxiliary images and Display-P3 conversions are outside this page's scope.

2. Review image selection Confirm AVIF is selected and review optional Quality. A blank field uses the native default of 88; Lossless is unavailable.

3. Review AVIF choices If the input has an ICC profile, explicitly select Remove color profile (may change colors). Display-P3 is excluded. Review transparency and metadata; no exact RGB or alpha guarantee is made.

4. Add the task, convert and download Choose Add task, then Run and download the AVIF. Check the actual file and receiving app requirements.
