TGA to JPG questions
Which TGA images can I convert?
This workflow supports one unsigned 8-bit RGB or RGBA TGA still image. Packed 15-bit and 16-bit TGA, unsupported variants, and layered or animated representations are not supported. A filename alone does not establish compatibility.
Will JPG keep a transparent background?
JPG does not keep transparency. If inspection finds alpha, choose Flatten and an explicit Background before adding the task.
Will the image and metadata stay exactly the same?
JPG uses lossy compression. Quality can change the image and the output size; no fixed size reduction or identical pixels are promised. Review any required color or metadata choices. This does not promise to preserve every TGA extension field, texture feature or color-profile representation.
Is the output always smaller?
No. File size depends on the image and output settings. Check the actual downloaded bytes against the receiving app or website’s requirements; changing the extension alone does not guarantee acceptance.
Does this export layers, mipmaps or every image from a file?
No. This page creates one still image per supported input. It does not extract layers or mipmaps, preserve animation, or promise support for every TGA variant.
How to convert TGA to JPG
1. Choose your TGA image Select a supported .tga image with unsigned 8-bit RGB or RGBA channels. Packed 15-bit and 16-bit TGA images are not supported. This is a still-image conversion, not a layered or animated export.
2. Confirm JPG output Check that JPG is selected. Leave Width and Height blank to keep dimensions after orientation handling. JPG uses lossy compression. Quality can change the image and the output size; no fixed size reduction or identical pixels are promised.
3. Review transparency and other choices JPG does not keep transparency. If inspection finds alpha, choose Flatten and an explicit Background before adding the task. Review any required color-profile or metadata choices. Keep the original TGA if you need its original representation.
4. Add the task, convert and download Choose Add task, then Run. Download the JPG when it finishes and check its image, dimensions and actual file size before sharing it or uploading it elsewhere.
Choose another image task
Choose PNG for another JPG image; this cannot restore detail lost in JPEG encoding.
Review actual output bytes for an upload limit.
