TGA to WebP questions
Which TGA files are supported?
This page supports one unsigned 8-bit RGB or RGBA TGA still image. Packed 15-bit and 16-bit images, unsupported variants, layers and animation are not supported.
Will WebP keep transparency?
WebP keeps supported transparency. Leave Flatten unchecked to retain it, or choose Flatten and an explicit background when you want an opaque image.
Should I choose Quality or Lossless?
Quality uses lossy compression and can change image detail. Lossless uses lossless image compression. Neither setting promises every original TGA color, metadata or container field.
Will WebP always be smaller?
No. Output size depends on the image and settings. Check the downloaded bytes; changing the extension does not guarantee a smaller file or acceptance by another website.
Does this export a texture package or mipmaps?
No. This creates one still WebP image. It does not generate or preserve layers, mipmaps, engine-specific texture packages or every TGA variant.
How to convert TGA to WebP
1. Choose your TGA image Select a supported .tga still image with unsigned 8-bit RGB or RGBA channels. Packed 15-bit and 16-bit TGA, layered and animated files are outside this workflow.
2. Choose your WebP settings Check that WebP is selected. Quality mode uses lossy compression; Lossless uses lossless image compression. Leave Width and Height blank to keep dimensions after orientation handling.
3. Review transparency and metadata Leave Flatten unchecked to keep supported transparency. Review any required color or metadata choices. This conversion does not preserve every TGA extension field or texture feature.
4. Convert and download Choose Add task, then Run. Download the WebP and check its image, dimensions and actual bytes against the destination app or website requirements.
