Convert WebP to AVIF

Save a supported 8-bit still WebP image as AVIF for a website or app that accepts AVIF. This conversion is lossy and does not promise identical pixels or a smaller file. WebP may already contain compression loss. Re-encoding as AVIF does not restore detail lost in the WebP original.

AVIF output is preset. Review the optional Quality field, transparency, color-profile and metadata choices before adding the output task. AVIF uses lossy encoding here; Lossless is unavailable. Add task and start conversion when you are ready. No task is created automatically.

WEBP to AVIF questions

Which WebP files can I convert to AVIF?

This workflow supports ordinary unsigned 8-bit still WebP images. Animated, high-bit and CMYK sources are outside its scope; it does not promise support for every source variant.

Will AVIF keep exactly the same quality as my WebP?

No. This AVIF encoder is lossy, including at high quality settings, and does not promise identical pixels. WebP may already contain compression loss. Re-encoding as AVIF does not restore detail lost in the WebP original.

Can I choose lossless AVIF?

No. This workflow exposes lossy AVIF quality settings; its Lossless control is unavailable. Retain the original if pixel preservation is required.

Will transparency and colors be identical?

AVIF supports transparency, and this converter lets you review transparency and color choices. It does not guarantee identical pixels, complete metadata or original color-profile preservation. Check the downloaded image in the receiving app.

Will the AVIF always be smaller than my WebP?

No. Size depends on the image and quality setting. Compare the actual download bytes with your upload limit, and confirm that the receiving website or app accepts AVIF.

How to convert WEBP to AVIF

1. Choose your WebP image Select a supported unsigned 8-bit still WebP image. Animated, high-bit and CMYK inputs are outside this workflow's supported scope.

2. Review AVIF quality Confirm AVIF is selected. Quality is optional; leaving it blank uses the native default of 88. AVIF encoding is lossy, and Lossless is unavailable. Leave Width and Height blank to keep dimensions after orientation handling.

3. Review transparency and metadata AVIF supports transparency, but pixel-exact output is not promised. Review any flattening/background choice and the color-profile and metadata settings. Complete source metadata and profile preservation are not guaranteed.

4. Add the task, convert and download Choose Add task, then start conversion and download the AVIF. Check the result, actual file size and whether the receiving website or app accepts AVIF.

Choose another image task

Use JPG when a receiving app or upload does not accept AVIF, reviewing transparency loss.

Save an AVIF image as PNG for another image workflow; conversion cannot restore earlier encoding loss.
